General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has strongly indicated that the opposition party is willing to fight tooth and nail against the Electoral Commission (EC's) quest to compile a new register for the 2020 general elections on December 7.
According to the NDC Chief Scribe, his party is prepared to resist any unconstitutional means by the electoral body which will not promote a free and fair election and possibly disenfranchise Ghanaians in the upcoming general elections.
Speaking on Okay FM’s Ade Akye Abia Morning Show, General Mosquito as affectionately called "we are all part of the framers of the constitution and have placed the EC in charge of our elections in order to maintain the country’s democracy so that whoever becomes president is the only one duly elected by Ghanaians. Therefore if in the course of your duty we feel that you are not doing what Ghanaians are paying you to do, every Ghanaian has the right to say it as it is”.
Reiterating the determination of the opposition party to ensure that the right thing is done, Johnson Asiedu Nketia affirmed the NDC's decision to prevent the EC from conducting a new registration exercise unless it is in line with the constitution.
“We are telling the EC emphatically that they will not be allowed to begin the process of compiling a voter register. Let not the EC, NPP or any other body think that we are going to withdraw from the elections; it won’t happen and they shouldn’t also think that they can do things contrary to the 1992 constitution to scheme and cook up things to favour Akufo-Addo or any other person in the upcoming elections. That too, will not happen.
“We will insist on a free and fair elections, and then in the event of a registration exercise, it will be based on the respect of everybody’s human and civic rights, while ensuring an even playing field for all . . . and we will participate and win as NDC,” he assured.
Mr Asiedu Nketiah was emphatic that the NDC will continue to publicly voice out the misdeeds of the EC as the electoral body appears not willing to heed to the advice of the NDC at Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meetings.
“All the things we are talking about in public, we have already discussed with them at the IPAC meeting but they refused to listen and so if they won’t listen, should we say that since they have become block-headed, we should refrain from speaking out? We will continue to fight for the right things to be done. We are not saying that we are going to show EC something that the NDC had secretly planned to do," he fumed.

NDC DESERVES ANOTHER TERM OF OPPOSITION. IT IS DIFFICULT TO UNDERSTAND THE REASONS FOR NDC CRY OF WOLF. THEIR ALLEGATION THAT EC AND NIA WANT TO FAVOR NPP OR ANY POLITICAL PARTY IS FRIVOLOUSSS. THEY COMPLAIN AS IF NIA AND EC HAVE SET DIFFERENT RULES FOR DIFFERENT POLITICAL PARTIES FOR THEIR REGISTRATIONS. CONTRARY, NEITHER NIA NOR EC DEMANDS ANY DECLARATION OF PARTY MEMBERSHIP BEFORE ANY REGISTRATION. THE RULES THEY SET UP TO MAKE THEIR WORK EFFICIENT IS APPLICABLE TO EVERYBODY IN EVERY PART OF THE NATION. THE ESSENCE OF NIA AND EC REGISTRATION IS TO IDENTIFY AND ASCERTAIN ALL TRUE GHANAIANS. AS MUCH AS THEY SHOULD INCLUDE EVERY WILLING GHANAIAN TO BE REGISTERED, IT IS ALSO THEIR DUTY TO EXCLUDE FOREIGNERS, OR AS IN THE CASE OF NIA TO IDENTIFY THEM AS NON-GHANAIANS. NONE OF THE TWO REGISTRATIONS IS FINISHED. NIA REGISTRATION IS ONGOING. EC IS YET TO BEGIN. IT IS UNREASONABLEEE FOR ANY ONE TO GENUINELY COMPLAIN OR BLAME SOMEBODY FOR EXCLUSION. LET THOSE NOISEEE MAKERS PROVE THAT, IF NOT BY THEMSELVES, THEY HAVE BEEN EXCLUDED BY THE FAULT OF SOMEBODY. NDC SHOULD STOP CRYING "WOLF, WOLF WOLF" WHEN THERE IS NO WOLF. THEY ARE RATHER PORTRAYED THAT THEY INTEND TO PERPETUATE SOME FRAUD BY DEMANDING TO CREATE LOOPHOLES IN THE REGISTRATION PROCESS. THE CONCERN OF ANY SERIOUS POLITICAL PARTY AT THIS TIME SHOULD BE THE STRATEGY TO EDUCATE THEIR FOLLOWERS TO TAKE THE EXERCISE SERIOUS. THEY SHOULD ENCOURAGE THEIR MEMBERS TO SATISFY THE REQUIRED CONDITIONS. NOTHING IS GOT ON SILVER PLATTER. NOBODY WOULD YIELD TO PRESSURE OF DEMONSTRATIONS, PRESS CONFERENCES AND THREATS OF VIOLENCE. THE RESORT TO ANY OF THEM CANNOT BE HELPFUL TO THE PERPETRATORS THEMSELVES. IT PAINTS THEM EVILL IN THE EYES OF MANY. IT CANNOT ACHIEVE ANY MEANINGFUL GOAL FOR THEM. JUST AS THE WORLD AND GHANA HAVE SURVIVED THE CORONA VIRUS, THE WORST IN THE CENTURY, SO SO WE SHALL SUCCEED TO DEFEAT ANY DIABOLICC INCIDENT OR OUTBREAK. LIGHT SHALL ALWAYS DEFEAT DARKNESS NO MATTER HOW LONG IT TAKES. NDC HAVE LEARNT NOTHING IN OPPOSITION. THEY DESERVES ANOTHER TERM OF OPPOSITION. UNTIL THEY BEGIN TO BEHAVE MATURELYYY, SENSIBLYY AND RESPONSIBLYYY WE CAN NEVER EVER DREAM OF ANY POSSIBILITY TO BRINGING THEM TO GOVERNMENT. WE CANNOT EASILY FORGET OF THEIR CORRUPTION AND INCOMPETENCE.
Mark it on the wall. They are going to tell their supporters to register. Ndc as a serious party should be thinking about the airbus. The president is waiting for the campaign to begin officially before he goes for the jaguar. The people of Ghana can't believe why Mr Mahama has not made any comment on the scandal. We are still waiting to hear from the ex president.
EC please start the registration quickly and let us see whether Asiedu Nketiah is a man. Child talk and Asiedu Nketiah did the same before the start of Ghana card and then chicken out. He is only pleasing John Mahama -Airbus fall guy who has lost all his respect. EC make sure this register is done and rule of law does not bow to intimidation. I bet you, Asiedu Nketiah is a coward and only push gullible young people and Sam George in front of him
GHANA WILL NEVER DEVELOPE OR GO FORWARD IF THIS ASIEDU NKETIA KEEPS TALKING CHILDISH AND RU--B-IS-H.AT YOUR AGE,NOTHING GOOD IS COMING OUT OF YOUR BALD HEAD.SIA,SAGAA ENE EYAW WO-APUUUUU
Let them bring it on. The security agencies will deal ruthlessly and mercilessly with anyone who will foment trouble. They won't even find their voice to complain. If they are men they should try. We won't stand by to watch anybody to throw this country into chaos. God bless our homeland Ghana.
how desperate can people be for power? big i.d.i.o.t.s
Your children are cooling off in Canada and you are talking trash. Opanyin ***barred word***.
Asiedu Nketia be informed that afari gyan on a lot of occasions did not do what we paid him for particularly 2012, but civilized as the current president is fought the issue in a civilized manner and threats and thugs. In fact you can do whatever you want to your smallish body for all we ***barred word***.
Waaa hw3. Instead of going to court, listen to what you saying. They will fooooooooo11l around saaa and when the SWAT team crash them, they will start making noise. Do you think the security agencies will sit unconcerned for NDC fooo1ls to harm innocent Ghanaian citizens who will be out to write their name as a civic right? This croup of NDC leaders are foo11ling too much aaaba.
NDC CAN GO TO COURT IF THEY THINK THE EC'S CONDUCT IS UNCONSTITUTIONAL. BUT TO THREATEN MAYHEM I HOPE THEY ARE PLAYING WITH FIRE. MAYBE THEY WOULD HAVE TO LINE THEIR FAMILIES FIRSTFOR EXTINCTION BEFORE OTHERS FOLLOW. KURASE NI. THEY SHOULD ASK SAM GYATA GEORGE.
