The National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) flagbearer, John Mahama has reiterated calls to government to consider conducting mass testing exercises before the reopening of schools.
According to Mahama, government has accumulated enough resources in the name of Covid-19 to be able to fund a mass testing exercise, “even if it has to rely on private laboratories; for the sake of the life and health of Ghanaians.”
In the latest in his series of letters to government and the general public, he suggested that following the reopening of schools, students, teachers and ancillary staff returning to school or church attendants should undergo a mandatory Covid-19 test as a safety precaution.
The Former President indicated his support for the position of the various teachers’ unions and parents who have protested the ‘hasty’ reopening of schools.
“Government must pay close attention and take into consideration, the concerns of the various unions and parents.”
He added that, “any decision taken by government to ease restrictions must be based on the utmost respect for human life and the science of the disease we are dealing with.
“Decisions based on false premises will have grave consequences for all of us as Ghanaians.”
On behalf of his party, John Mahama congratulated all health workers still at the frontline of the fight against the virus for their collective effort during the pandemic.
“Ghanaians truly appreciate your sacrifices, and you can be assured that your commitment and sacrifice will never be forgotten.”

"You've accumulated enough resources...". Mahama said that? Like seriously? So as for Mahama the bottom-line is money. Am sure he has been imagining how much he would have accumulated personally if he were president at the time of the pandemic. But all jokes aside I think JM has no conscience. He is pure disaster. No country is currently doing mass testing because it is of little value. You can get tested today and on your way from the testing centre get infected. So if he wants the students to be tested then the test must be done on a daily basis and the schools must be under lock down without physical interaction with the rest of the world. Why is he not saying all market women and traders be tested before markets are opened. If you are ***barred word*** but you pretend to know something, you will always make a laughing stock of yourself.
Displaying your gross ignor@nce and !nc0mpetence. What will mass testing achieve? And are you going to be testing everyone every day, because one can test negative today and yet contract the virus today or the next day. So what will you have achieved? Sometimes, Mahama needs to think a bit deeper before making these statements. Or is it your dead COVID-19 response team that is giving you this advice?
I feel he puts best Ex President Mahama stop these comments. He's doing harm than good.People ask so that man was wise to raise funds for us even in the virus? Shared good, water,PPE keep the economy going, free electricity and leading in massive testing yet you can't recommend. Please do your candidature good by not looking for any glory here.
Mr. Former President where were these ideas when you were on the throne? We had Dumsor for over 4 years during your presidency, businesses collapsed , We had graduate unemployed association. nurses' and teachers' allowances were stoped. Why not sit back and watch your predecessor do wonders. 88 hospitals are ready to start in June 2020. I don't think you have chance to ascend on this throne again.
@Nana coro... Your English is very poor. We don't say sub regime; It is sub-region. Ghana never registered any Ebola case so which one was your Mahama fighting? In any case, what happened to the so-called NDC COVID response team? They've comatosed abi? Or they have become autoimmune?
You have accumulated a lot of money from our crude oil and your airbus bribe you took..... What did you do with our oil money? You shared it to your appointees as double salary. C0rrupt irrelevant man go away.
WHAAT?ARE YOU TELLING US THAT YOU CAN GET THE CHANCE TO COME STEAL AGAIN?NEVER ON THIS EARTH-JOHN DE-A-D GO-A-T-MAHAMA
SHAME ON YOU ,YOU COULDN,T EVEN DEVELOPED YOUR OWN TOWN AT THE TIME YOU HAD EVERYTHING IN YOUR DISPOSAL.YOU CAN SING AND BEAT WAR DRUMS THOSE ECHOES WILL COME BACK TO YOU.PLEASE HURRY UP AND BRING BACK THOSE MONIES YOU COLLECTED FROM THE AIRBUS AND KARPOWER DEAL-MR.***barred word***-SHORT MEMORY MAN.I COATED FROM ONE OF YOUR OWN SPEECH.
Mr JDM, which front line workers are you congratulating? Those whose efforts your Joyce Bawa rubbished? Indeed, JDM is the only Ghanaian who has short memory. A failed leader full of contradictions.
Not surprised by the sycophant.Thinking all the ideas to govern a country rested in the head of Mr Lilliput. Mahama was at helm affairs when Ebola was all over the sub regime. Everyone can attest to his sterling records. He was fighting the Ebola as even at Ecowas level meeting the like Ban ki Mu. Mahama hospitals Legon Medical centre he constructed became the cornerstone of curtailing the spread. What's is a crime to to recommend mass testing
