Head of Psychology at the University of Ghana, Professor Joseph Osafo has called on government to take strict measures to protect the people of Ghana against the outbreak of COVID-19.
Ghana’s coronavirus case count now stands at 23,463 after 641 new cases were recorded.
The number of recoveries has also risen to 18,622 with 4,717 active cases and 129 death count.
Some students of the Accra Girls' SHS and other medical professionals as well as Ministers of State have contracted the disease.
Recently, Education Minister Matthew Opoku Prempeh contracted the disease and has fully recovered but Senior Minister Yaw Osafo Maafo who has also got infected is still under medical treatment.
Days ago, a student of the KNUST SHS was abandoned by the teachers amidst fears he has contracted the disease and despite efforts by his colleague students to save him, he died; hence stirring protest among the students on campus.
Looking at the alarming rate of the coronavirus pandemic, Prof. Joseph Osafo on Peace FM's 'Kokrokoo' advised the government not to glory in the fact there are more COVID-19 recoveries but rather safeguard the citizenry by strictly enforcing the protocols and further asked the government to intervene in the students situation.
"If you keep on increasing the number of infected persons only for them to recover, to me, it's a chase after wind because you're incurring cost. The money you are using to take care of the patients till they recover could be used for something else. So, prevention is better than cure."
He also urged the citizens to take the disease seriously by observing all the safety protocols to curb the spread of the virus.

And where from this face shield? Ghanaians are too known; because someone wants to keep her makeup and Businessmen are cashing into it. The government should ban the use of this shield or it must be worn with the face mask which protects us. And they're always blaming the government.
@ Klutse & D10 - Rub bish* Utterly Rub bish* !! Unless you convince me you are living on a different planet where you can claim u never heard of the disease called Coronavirus. Are you telling us all those who are still advising and urging the govt to close all schools and stop the new Voters ID Card registration so as to stop the spread need to be experts and professionals? Religious leaders, Civil Society Orgs., Political leaders, Chiefs, Statesmen and the general public at large have all had their advise and appeals turned down. When the global pandemic started it was we the common people that advised the govt to close all the points of entry and take all the precautionary measures; but that too fell on deaf ears. When Ghana started recording the covid-19 cases we the illiterates advised the govt provide PPEs to the health workers and other front line workers:- 3ne y3n nn3. We saw the Corona coming; we advised the govt to block it, prevent it and confront it. The Corona has entered already and we are now chasing it - hey stop" hey stop". This govt; always doing the right thing at the wrong time.
This guy should be invited by the CID. Why is he speaking on this matter when he's not on any of accredited agencies mandated to talk ? U can't talk about the president like that.
Dear Prof, say something better ... we all know already that the Covid is illusive, moving ahead and we chasing it. Even mighty US, with all its deadly arsenals of weapons is being drilled! Use your good offices to admonish people to follow the covid protocols
There will be a time where 10 infected one goes to the ground .The government should be careful with the decision they take about covid .We started well but we ending in worse situation .NPP can lose because of ' Nkwasia' vote .
