Managing Editor of the Insight newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr., has expressed morbid fears over the rapid increase in the COVID-19 cases in Ghana.
Ghana's case count has reached 25,252 with 21,397 having recovered and/or discharged and 139 death cases have been recorded, according to the Ghana Health Service (GHS).
Speaking to host Kwami Sefa Kayi on Peace FM's 'Kokrokoo', Kwesi Pratt wondered why the numbers keep increasing despite all the assurances by government and health Professionals to Ghanaians about staying safe by obeying the health protocols against the disease.
He alluded to the President's COVID-19 update speeches where he asked Ghanaians to adhere to the health protocols and social distancing to avoid transmission of the viral disease but questioned why with all these protocols in place, the case count is not dwindling, hence new cases being recorded day in and out.
Being alarmed by the current numbers, Mr. Pratt compared Ghana to a country like Mauritius which he said has done extremely well to contain the disease and sought to find out where Ghana has gone wrong.
He stated that Mauritius opted for a lockdown and in the past weeks have recorded a zero COVID-19 case.
"Go to Mauritius and look at the figures. Mauritius recorded about 200 cases or so, total cases and they did a shutdown and introduced measures. In the last three weeks, they've not recorded even 1 case. The question that arises is if some countries can do this, why is ours almost messed up?" Kwesi Pratt quizzed.

EIIII KWESI PRATT, THE MR. KNOW ALL. YOU ARE AN ARDENT CRITIC. IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING THAT YOU SCORED 100% IN YOUR PROPAGANDA CLASS WITH THE ERSTWHILE CPP. THIS IS LEADING YOU NOWHERE OOO. ONLY PROPAGANDIST AND EMPTY TALKS - A TALKATIVE INDEED
You yourself sitting in the studio, wearing face shield without a mask. Is that what the president's directive suggested? Lets stop the hyp0cr1sy
Stay at home with your family without coming out till the vaccine is out, and you will be setting an example for people to follow. Double Standards.
This question should not be asked at all by any well informed and sane person. Attitude and behavior are everything and unfortunately these are lacking in Ghana. Besides, Mauritius is an Island with well protected coastline preventing illegal entry while here in Ghana, our own people smuggle in foreigners whose status may not be known.
Uncle Kwesi, you ave asked a good question but I think you are in a better position to answer it. 1. Population of Mauritius is far less than that of Ghana. 2. it is easier to control the much less population in Mauritius than that of Ghana. 3. Mauritians are very disciplined people and will adhere to which ever protocols that are put in place. Ghanaians including myself, we are not disciplined. We always want to do things our own way and when it goes wrong we blame government for action and inaction.. my point here is, go to Agbogbloshie, Kaneshie, Mallam Atta, Sakaman, Madina and all the market centre around and see who is keeping social distance or how many people are wearing the face masks. Government has not done badly but our own habits is causing the increase in spread. For example, during the three week lock down even churches came warning the president to lift the ban or face their wrath. Is that discipline? No. Look at the number of people who flouted the restriction on movement even with police and military around checking their recklessness and trying to correct them. Some till this day insist the disease is not in their communities... they are immune to the disease. Can that be discipline? No!! Please don't compare Ghana to Mauritius. they are more civillised, disciplined and advanced than we are. Good day
