The National Democratic Congress (NDC) will elect the next Speaker of Parliament because it won the majority of seats in the recently-held general elections, Chairman of the biggest opposition party, Mr Samuel Ofosu Ampofo has said.
At the 39th-anniversary celebration of the 31st December Revolution on Thursday, Mr Ofosu Ampofo said: “We want to say authoritatively that the NDC believes that we have a majority in Parliament”.
“We will use every legitimate and legal means to define that majority”.
“We will not allow anybody to subvert the will of the people. We will elect the next Speaker of Parliament because the voice of the people represents the voice of God.”
Per the Electoral Commission’s declared results, the NDC has 137 seats while the NPP has 137 seats.
The only independent MP-elect has publicly expressed his desire to support the NPP, from which he was expelled after deciding to run as an independent candidate in the just-held polls.

This man is still walking free and talking. Is he happy to be remembered as an arsonist?. The GS of the npp has boldly come out to blame the ndc for the burning of markets in our land but the party of press conferences and releases has not organised one to deny. Are they happy to be associated with this because they want to prove to Ghanaians that they can cause mayhem in Ghana and make the country ungovernable. The ndc should note that a nas-ty party does not win elections.
This evil man still talk?
why npp rushed to sign this contract for the Accra tema motorway extensions Dec 16 and not after 7th January .how much is the value of the contract.which were the other local Ghanaian and foreign companies which tendered and why not only ghanaian companies even asked to merge if necessary or contract split and shared for example among local Ghanaian companies .why are the figures of the other renderers not quoted for transparency.and finally did it need approval from parliament or was it rushed for signature to avoid newly elected parllament scrutiny.please clarify where are the funds and if local government has paid local contractors their monies long overdue
