Pollster and Editor-in-Chief of the Daily Dispatch newspaper, Ben Ephson, strongly believes no-one can challenge former President John Dramani Mahama for the 2024 flagbearership slot of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
According to him, the former President has still proven to have a track record to lead the party for a possible victory in 2024.
Speaking on Okay FM's 'Ade Akye Abia' show with Kwame Nkrumah Tikese, he explained that garnering over 6 million votes in the 2020 general elections is not an easy task.
"So for John Dramani Mahama to be able to do that indicates that he is still a popular figure in the country's political landscape. Even within his party, I don't think there is anything new to say that will malign or put the former President into disrepute, because those things have been said already by those who even contested with him during the 2019 flagbearership race of the National Democratic Congress," the pollster indicated.
The next Presidential and Parliamentary elections are due on 7 December 2024.
Due to under term limits imposed on Presidents under the 1992 constitution, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will certainly present a new face, after President Akufo-Addo who was first elected in 2016 finishes his second term in 2024.
Mahama deserves a free pass in 2024- Apaak
The Member of Parliament(MP) for Builsa South, Dr. Clement Apaak has maintained that former President John Dramani Mahama was robbed of victory in the 2020 presidential election.
The legislator says the agenda, to rob the former President, was led by state institutions who were handpicked by his contender, the incumbent President.
He said "it is self-evident that Mr. Mahama was robbed of victory, and as it stands now, he [Mahama] is the only one who can rescue the country. He must have a free pass to reclaim his stolen mandate”.
It remains unclear what this position means, but deep throat sources in the NDC have confirmed the former President could be filed as a candidate for the party in 2024.
The Legislator who worked as a Presidential staffer for the former President before he was elected to parliament said that the NDC needs Mr. Mahama more than Mahama needs the NDC.
For him, Mr. Mahama clearly won the election but it was rigged for the incumbent.

Uncle Ben! I understand your point. You want JDM so that you can continue to lick his but for peanuts and goodies!!
In Ghana oppositions do not win elections based on the candidate. The people just votes Government in Powers out when they are tired of them. I think the 6M plus votes Mahama got is not so much about his popularity but also about the fact that a new register had been compiled and the total number of voters had also increased. so do we say Nana Addo is also so popular because of his 6.5M is unprecedented? No. for me i think NDC needs a new face if they want to be relevant in Ghana politics. JM can only serve for 1 term and if they don't have an alternative now, then they will fall again after him. Open the contest so others can also market themselves for Life after Mahama. However, nobody stole elections from Mahammah in 20210. He even had more than ewe all expected.
So uncle Ben who came in 5th position because you mentioned Kennedy Agyepong, Bawumia, Alan, Joe Ghartey then Dan Botwe in the popularity contest. You again mentioned Alan, Joe Ghartey, Ken, Bawumia and Dan when you asked the delegates for the presidential slot. In your diabo!ical analysis you intentionally describe npp as an Ashanti and Akim party. A worn out propaganda campaign that does not work for the ndc any more. You guys are just scared of Bawumia. When the whistle is blown for the primary commencement Bawumia will win the contest easily. Bawumia has come of age in politics when it comes to campaigning and organising. Bawumia is going to win in Ashanti region. Mark my word. Go to Kumasi and check out for yourself how overwhelming majority really appreciate how Bawumia has helped npp to improve the votes of the npp in the northern regions. People like you should propose Bawumia to win the presidential candidacy of the npp if you scared of him because the delegates will never vote for the person you guys like. Bawumia all the way.
If the NDC cannot present any other candidate apart from the former President Mahama, then NDC as a part has a big problem. Giving the polarisation of party politicking in Ghana and the constellation of the election results in terms of the number of votes a candidate garners in his stronghold based on ethnicity and traditions, is nothing to write home about. The king makers are the swing voters who cast their votes for the candidates according to their merits and competence. And here, namely competence, I think the former President Mahama has a huge deficit. Therefore, a new face or candidate would be strategically more reasonable.
So that, you lots can go and create loots and share with you people. J Mahama will not come today or tomorrow.
