A flagbearer hopeful of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr Kwabena Duffuor, has described as “wicked” and “unfair”, claims that he is being used by the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), to put spokes in the wheel of former President John Mahama’s comeback for the 2024 general elections.
The former Bank of Ghana Governor, who has made his presidential ambitions public, told his TV station, GHOne, in an interview on Monday, 6 December 2021 that: Those claims are just wicked and I pray that those people will put their thinking caps on”.
“It is very unfair”, he added.
The former Finance Minister then asked: “Who will serve a country for four years and will not accept anything: no salary, no allowances, no ex gratia?”
“Why would I be a mole when money is not my problem”, he wondered.
According to him, he delayed the pursuit of his presidential ambition by a few years despite having been urged by former president Jerry Joh Rawlings to run for the slot in 2018.
“I felt the time was not right when Rawlings called on me to contest”, he explained.
The late ex-president, Dr Duffuor revealed, “said he was going to lead my campaign himself but I didn’t”.
“The only reason I’m doing so now is because I think the party can still do better and it must involve everyone”, he added.
The businessman, who is in his 70s, also shrugged off age concerns, saying: “Why should age matter?”
“The focus should be on what the person brings to the fore and what they are capable of delivering when given the job and my track record proves what I can do in almost every sphere of the economy”, he noted. “My record and the work we are capable of doing should be the driver of the conversation not age”, he added.

GO MAN GO! YOU ARE QUALIFIED YOU ARE GHANAIAN. WHY DOES SOMEBODY WANT TO BE PRESIDENT FOR '100' TIMES?? HAH HYPOCR.....!
We know money is not your problem, you have paid your dues duly to mother Ghana it's time to take a bow. GO HOME AND ENJOY YOUR RETIREMENT WITH YOUR WIEF AND KIDS, why do you want to become a president? It is only in Africa that the old generation always wants to be in political office.
Yes, Dr Duffour money is not your problem. You have used customers deposits to open more than fifteen companies and your son also used some to buy properties overseas. So how will money become your problem. Now it the burden of the government that you accuse to use GCH 21 billion both tax payers money and loans to settle the customers.Do not come and spoil NDC chances in 2024, because you more skeletons in your cupboard. You would have to defend the collapse of Unibank and involvement of your company getting government payroll contracts whiles you were the finance minister.
we have heard this so many times, so then what do you want
In Ghana, if you are bold and honest enough to speak your mind, they say you are tribalistic. What is more tribalistic than MPs of one particular party using the approval of the state budget to blackmail the government over a developmental project in one particular region? while the impetus for that project spans multiple regions. What is more irresponsible than that? You start the game of bigotry and turn around to blame others when you get a responsive reaction. That is too ziillly, isn't it? I hope the good people of the Volta region will not fall prey to the bigots and their diabolic games. We have to encourage Dr. Duffuor to change the status quo of the NDC's sole politics of deceit with the main zeal to garner votes because, at the end of the day, kleptocracy becomes obvious.
