Ranking Member on Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has asked the ruling government to abort any dream of buying the Boeing 787 Dreamliner Presidential Jet on sale by Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
The Member of Parliament for North Tongu constituency in a Facebook post said since "the ultra-luxury Presidential Jet has all the features President Akufo-Addo craves in an aircraft", the government might purchase it to satisfy the "recently acquired flying taste in vulgar opulence"
He, therefore, made the following demands:
1) That the sovereign Ghanaian people strongly caution President Akufo-Addo not to entertain any thought of approaching the Mexicans to buy their Presidential Jet considering that his government had earlier announced and defended plans to buy a new so-called “fit for purpose” presidential jet, and particularly seeing that the Mexican configuration is similar to what he has become addicted to in his infamous “sky bath” charters;
2) That the Parliament of Ghana serves notice that any such Ghana-Mexico Presidential Jet Purchase Agreement will not be ratified;
3) That Mexico is herein advised not to entertain any bid from Ghana — particularly as aside having our own Presidential Jet in pristine condition, albeit not of Akufo-Addo’s oligarchic standards, our mismanaged economy makes us unlikely candidates to meet their financial terms.

Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador who took office in December 2018 still refuses to fly the US$218million Boeing 787 Dreamliner Presidential Jet his predecessor bought after criticizing former President Nieto of engaging in obscene ostentation in the abundance of poverty.
Now this is my real fear: President AMLO, as he is widely called in Mexico has put up for sale the ultra-luxury Presidential Jet which has all the features President Akufo-Addo craves in an aircraft; in addition, President AMLO has now reduced the selling price of the jet which comes equipped with a private presidential suite, master bedroom, marble-lined showers, banquet dining facilities and an exclusive cinema room to a tempting US$130million.
Even though President AMLO has announced an unprecedented rental package for Mexicans intending to use the jet bought with their taxes in 2012 for weddings and parties — proceeds he will use to pay for interim maintenance of the jet, he has told the media Mexico is still open to sell the luxurious monster as he insists on flying commercial, consistent with his policies of austerity and modest leadership. This is a profound example in frugal leadership many aviation experts do not take lightly, especially for a Mexican Presidential Jet described by Mashable as the world’s most modern, luxurious and efficient presidential carrier, and not forgetting Canada’s initial spirited but botched interest to buy.
As Ghanaians who bear the brunt financially for President Akufo-Addo’s recently acquired flying taste in vulgar opulence, these should be our preemptive demands:
1) That the sovereign Ghanaian people strongly caution President Akufo-Addo not to entertain any thought of approaching the Mexicans to buy their Presidential Jet considering that his government had earlier announced and defended plans to buy a new so-called “fit for purpose” presidential jet, and particularly seeing that the Mexican configuration is similar to what he has become addicted to in his infamous “sky bath” charters;
2) That the Parliament of Ghana serves notice that any such Ghana-Mexico Presidential Jet Purchase Agreement will not be ratified;
3) That Mexico is herein advised not to entertain any bid from Ghana — particularly as aside having our own Presidential Jet in pristine condition, albeit not of Akufo-Addo’s oligarchic standards, our mismanaged economy makes us unlikely candidates to meet their financial terms.
Hands off Mexico’s Presidential Jet!

The most insane story ever read on peacefmonline. Who is Ablakwa to tell NPP govt what to do? parliamentarians in Ghana should lead by example by using bicycles and trotro to work. 2. No parliamentarian should use business class when traveling abroad 3. The Housing and car loan given to parliamentarians should stop. 4.The 4 year end of service benefits to parliamentarians should be cancelled. Does Ablakwa know the inconveniences caused to host countries when a president is transiting through their airports? Doe Ablakwa Know the inconveniences caused the traveling president when using commercial planes and the destination has no direct flight? There are times you waste about 8 hours sitting at airports just to connect to your destination. Is that how we want our president to waste man hours sitting at airports and waiting for a connecting flight? Ablakwa should think again
Everybody should pray not to give birth to a baby with sharp teeth. No wonder he is an NDC MP. Your hatred against the President will never work. Tell the whole world where you have worked before coming to parliament. Name one person from your family who was a member of the "big six? A word to a wise....
Let us tell that Ablakwa that parliament is a serious institution and not a place for concert party, Akuffo addo could have bought the jet in 2018 when he was haven majority members in parliament and will not have waited for this hang parliament to buy that jet. if he has nothing to contribute in parliament he should just sleep and stop wasting our ears.
This is pure ***barred word*** and should not come from a parliamentarian or to be reported as news. How can you as an MP imagine things and expect people to talk about it? So Nana Addo should be blamed based on your imagination?
Our so called media houses and players are to blame for this ***barred word***. When did the expression of an individual's opinion on his/her Facebook wall become news worthy? Our so called journalists have lost it all completely!
I think Ablakwa is becoming too obsessed with this presidential jet issue. A country says they are putting their presidential jet up for sale, and you quickly jump in and say Nana Addo should not think of buying that jet. When was there ever a hint that Nana Addo is intending to buy that jet? I think Ablakwa should find something that is more beneficial to him and the country to do rather than searching the Internet and manufacturing stories to satisfy his obsession.
Who are you to tell a government what to do? Interesting times indeed!
