The Ministry of Finance has denied publications trending on social media of audiotapes and mainstream media speculating about 94% discount on Tier 2 pension investments in government securities.
Aside from the speculations other publications encourage a switch from securities to forex as a store of value.
However, setting the records straight, the Ministry in a statement urged the public to disregard the fake news trending.
The statement said These publications and “social media advisories” are without merit and are designed to undermine confidence in Ghana’s financial sector. Indeed, they rather contribute to pressures on the currency and undermine investor confidence”.
“Government’s engagements with the IMF, both in Accra and in Washington D.C., on a Programme to restore macro-economic stability, are progressing steadily”.
“The Post-Covid Economic Growth Programme is designed to bring growth, stability, and relief to our country”
“We, therefore, encourage all Ghanaians to disregard these publications, which are in no way reflective of the progress of work being done with the IMF. For the avoidance of doubt, it must be recalled that the Government of Ghana since 2017, has always protected investors’ interests in the financial sector” the statement noted.
“Government will continue with this objective and ensure that investors’ best interests are upheld at all times” the statement added.

As for this finance minister, he has lost credibility. When he speaks people will hear but they won't listen. This was the man who said Ghana has the resources, the capacity and the men and that we were not going to the IMF, within a matter of weeks he turns facing the IMF for a self inflicted bail out. This is the finance minister who banked all his hopes open a tax that can be avoided legally i.e. E-levy. If i don't send money electronically i don't pay E-levy,,it's that simple. Today he will be the first to admit that the forced levy is not making the intended impact. What these so called politicians in Ghana fail to realize is that we voted for them to occupy their current positions, they did vote to qualify Ghanaians to be voters. So when the people speak, listen. Now you have forced the donkey to the river side, why can't you force it to drink, force Ghanaians to pay E-levy. If occupying the presidential/ ministerial seat were by an examination, will you even venture to come to the examination venue let alone sitting in to write the exams. When people put their trust in you, don't think they are ***barred word***, it's just that they trusted you more than you deserved, you have succeeded in bringing Ghana to its knees. Nothing is working.
