Former president John Dramani Mahama says regardless of all happenings in 2022, the time has come to save Ghana from sinking deep.
In his New Year message on his official Facebook handle, Mr Mahama admitted the economic hardship the country faced in 2022 and urged the citizenry to keep hope as they enter a new year.
“What a year it has been!” he said
Mr Mahama, however, cited the government's “reckless binge borrowing” as a major problem of Ghana’s woes
"We have been fortunate to survive as a nation and are lucky by the grace of the Almighty to be alive to see the dawn of a new year.
"Once we have the gift of life, which is the most important of all, there is opportunity in the new year to be better versions of ourselves and work even harder towards salvaging our dear nation from the avoidable abyss into which she has been plunged.
"May this new year open the pathway and bring us to the cusp of building the ‘Ghana We Want’— a Ghana of opportunities for all and one in which our individual and collective aspirations are achieved,” part of his new year message read

What a year it has been!
Our dear nation, Ghana, defaulted on our debt obligations due to reckless binge borrowing over the last few years.
Ghanaians have been confronted with unprecedented hardships never seen under this Fourth Republic. And our democracy and patience as a people were tested to their elastic limits.
We welcome the new year, 2023, knowing that a journey of austerity and sacrifice is just beginning. But we cannot give up HOPE! We cannot give up on our dear motherland Ghana.
As we face the future with fortitude, let us remember the solemn words of the hymnist, Johnson Oatman Jr, when he urges us to Count Our Blessings and Name Them One by One.
We have been fortunate to survive as a nation and are lucky by the grace of the Almighty to be alive to see the dawn of a new year. Once we have the gift of life, which is the most important of all, there is an opportunity in the new year to be better versions of ourselves and work even harder towards salvaging our dear nation from the avoidable abyss into which she has been plunged.
May this new year open the pathway and bring us to the cusp of building the ‘Ghana We Want’— a Ghana of opportunities for all and one in which our individual and collective aspirations are achieved.
I wish you all, my fellow countrymen and women, a very Happy and Prosperous New Year.

I wonder why this man the former president gets the courage to talk about the economy of Ghana. Every project you did for this country was inflated to your benefit. Terminal three of the Kotoka Airport cost us $290 million dollars. The elevation A M S L of the whole airport is 205ft/62m compare to the whole St Helena airport which has the elevation A M S L 1017ft/310m built by the British government cost $374 million at the same period in 2016·People who are in doubt could google to find out. For Mahama to come close to the presidency will be disastrous to the country. There is only one thing on his top agenda to come and give back the Bauxite which is estimated $650 billion to his family. The almighty God and the gods of this country will not allow him inshalla Allah.
Mahama has benefited from the country Ghana more than any Ghanaian, the question Ghanaians should ask Mr airbus how many companies he built during his tenure as a president? On his own as a former president, how many people have he employed in his own like Kennedy Agyapong? Very greedy politician, Ghanaians are suffering and the president has reduced his salary 30% because of the global economic crisis but due to your selfishness you always receive your monthly salary which is more than the current president salary, you should be ashamed of yourself and what was the economy when you were the president? Ghanaians shouldn’t dream of mahama at all, he was given the opportunity but it was very terrible without global economic crisis, he cancelled teachers and nursing allowances, plunged the whole country into darkness, dumsor for that matter, ahhhhhhhh mahama? Upon your so called mismanagement of the economy Ghanaians are enjoying light, free SHS, teachers and nurses allowances have been restored. You should be ashamed of yourself as former president of Ghana
Look at this ***barred word*** guy talking ***barred word***. Kanazoe ford bribe taker, Ghana bauxite was given to his brother, Airbus aircraft purchase bribe he received, bus branding scandal etc etc etc name the rest. You are not fit to rule Ghana. Go and hide your corrupt face and enjoy your stolen state cash.
Haha ,this guy thinks Ghanaians are ***barred word*** you never deserved to be president in the first place ,you don't look like one so please leave us in peace 😊
We thank God! You see all the evil you and Ex-Chairman Ofosu Ampofo wished on Ghana did not come to pass. You are not God🙏🏿
Hahahaaaa, if you care to know a lot of people have given up. It's e everyone for him/ herself, God for us all. Ghanaians have entered the NDC and NPP markets and have come to the realization that these markets belong to 2 identical twins who's only interest is to profit from state coffers, nothing more nothing less. When you see them busily cutting sods for projects, bet me their interest is the hidden goodies in those projects not the project itself. Where their interests is they will always find money to do it. Economic challenges does not affect exgratia, purchase of new V8's, allowances, foreign trips, they tell us the economy is hard and yet still a few are still receiving entertainment allowances in addition to their salary, if the economy is hard what are they entertaining themselves with? Now nobody cares about any politicians, people are living their lives without even thinking there is someone sitting there because they know that MMDCE , deputy minister, minister, Vice President, president is there representing him or herself and not people . NDC/ NPP are twins, what one does today which people don't like, the other will come and do 10 times that and turn round to tell you when this people were in government they also did same and the chorus continues unabated.
