Charles Owusu has slammed James Gyakye Quayson who has been disqualified from Parliament by the Supreme Court for not learning lessons from his past experiences.
James Gyakye Quayson, according to the court ruling, is no longer a Member of Parliament for Assin North constituency and this is due to a petition challenging his legitimacy as he was said to have not completed the process of his renunciation of dual citizenship at the time he was elected into Parliament.
In view of this, a by-election is to be held on Tuesday, June 27 to elect a new parliamentarian for the constituency.
However, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is presenting the deposed MP to re-contest the seat.
Speaking on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo" show in relation to the matter, Charles Owusu couldn't fathom why Mr. Gyakye Quayson knew he held dual citizenship but still went ahead to contest the Assin North parliamentary seat, knowing very well his action contravened the laws of the country.
He alluded to the years 2012 and 2016 when the NDC reportedly rejected Mr. Gyakye Quayson to contest the seat on the ticket of the party for holding a dual citizenship.
To him, Mr. Quayson repeating the same mistake in 2020 is an indication that he doesn't respect Ghana's laws.
"If it is true that this same thing happened to him in 2012 and the party told him they can't let him contest on their ticket, so he was rejected and in 2016, he was told the same thing; yet he returned in 2020 using the same route, then he deserves to be punished," he said.
The former Head of Monitoring Unit at the Forestry Commission admonished the disqualified MP to do the right thing emphasizing "nobody is bigger than the laws of this country".

@Akwasi, so you waisted your time to write this? Which advance country allow people with dual citizenship to hold a position like this? Do you know the kind of Ghana’s secret an MP must protect? In any case, did the NPP write the constitution? Unless the constitution is changed, the judges and every responsible citizen will respect the constitution. He can win but will still face the criminal charges.
NDC people have the same idea. No body can change their mind.
That Ghanaian law is B - - S in the first place. A Ghanaian, is a Ghanaian, ***barred word*** stop. Take out the diverse contribution of Ghanaians oversees, can you imagine how Ghana's economy will look like, and how people will suffer for not getting the financial support they get from family and friends. You want the rewards from our hardships abroad, yet when we bring our knowledge and skills, we are discriminated by our very own people, what a S-H-A-M-E. This non- - sense of dual citizenship and allegiance, is no hindrance, even in the advanced economies, for their citizens to participate in politics and government, yet the well thought judges are comfortable entertaining this ***barred word*** eligibility rules. If those calling for Gyakye's head are more committed to Ghana, why send their children abroad for school, why seek medical treatments abroad, why hiding properties and fat bank accounts abroad? We know them before they get into politics and public office. As Rawlings said ''g-r-e-e-d-y b-a-s-t-a-r-d-s" Is such a S-H-A-M-E, NPP can never win that seat. Gyakye will retain it!
