The Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon. Simon Osei Mensah, has hit back at the leader of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Former President John Dramani Mahama, accusing him of living in a fool's paradise for patting himself on the back over completion of developmental projects in the region by his administration.
According to Hon Simon Osei, the former President has been largely misinformed about projects in the Ashanti Region he (Mahama) believes to have completed.
"Indeed, most of these projects the former president claimed to have undertaken n the Ashanti region were not fully completed," he added.
With particular reference to the Kejetia Market, Hon Simon Osei asserted that the project was completed in 2019 under the NPP government.
He was speaking to Kwame Nkrumah Tikesie on Okayfm's ‘Ade Akyi Abia’ on morning show.
".....even with the Kumasi airport, the project was started by the NPP government at the time when Mad. Cecelia Dapaah was the Sector Minister for Aviation.... His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, His Royal Majesty, Otumfour Osei-Tutu II, and the sector minister did the sod- cutting for the construction of the Kumasi Airport’’.
‘’Former President Mahama spent over $20 million just for the construction of a runway,’’ he added.
The Ashanti Regional Minister reiterated the NPP government’s quest to make the living conditions of Ghanaians better. He noted that, the NPP government has been able to complete some hospitals across the country.

@Dan were you not in the country when JohnMahama and his ndc were shouting from a rooftop in 2017 that Akufo-Addo and npp should complete the hospitals in Ashanti region? These hospitals were even started in Pres kufuor's era, yet Mills and Mahama couldnt complete them. For yr information, there are gigantic projects like Boankra Inland port, phase 2 of the airport, komfo anokye mother and child department which was started in acheampong's era but no govt deemed it expedient to work on it, just to mention a few
Well said, however you are the Ashanti regional minister so concentrate on development projects undertaken by the NPP in your region. To say that the NPP government has been able to complete some hospital projects across the country is a defeatist approach. You should have gone ahead to list ongoing and completed projects undertaken by the NPP from 2017 to date to deflate what John Mahama said. Projects such as CHPS compounds and 6 classroom blocks should be left to the MMDCE' as these are common fund or District development facility projects. You should be talking of giant infrastructural projects in your region. Am for NPP but truth be told. The appointing authority and his appointees are doing a great disservice to the NPP. Just reflect on how you ( Simon Osei Mensah) handled school feeding caterers who came to your office to complain about the meager GHC 1.00 as feeding fee per pupil per day. You sacked them as if they don't knowing very well majority if not all of them are your party supporters. Can you as the regional minister look at these women and their faces and ask them to continue to remain faithful to the NPP? Reflect on the response of the president of the people of kwabre east when they complained about the bad nature of roads in their constituency. This was the constituency that gave Akuffo Addo 86,000 votes in the 2020 elections, the highest recorded by any constituency in that years election. Is that how you respond to people you will need tomorrow more so in your stronghold? Mr minister, how do you feel looking at the Asantehene launching an appeal for funds to refurbish the Komfo Anokye teaching hospital at a time the people of Ashanti have remained faithful to the NPP since the inception of the fourth republic? You ( the NPP appointees and those at the seat of government) don't want those party supporters who will tell you the truth in your face . Those praise singers are doing so because of their stomachs. John Mahama never thought of coming back to the political scene after that embarrassing defeat in 2016. However having sat back and observing happenings in government from his home, he might have said, if this is what am seeing then i was a saint thus his desire to stage a comeback. From the bottom of your heart you know he's making inroads. A newly born 2017 elephant with very big ears as usual, unfortunately it doesn't listen, at best it hears but won't listen. Most of the experienced NPP MP's who have decided to opt out of parliament are disappointed big time looking at the way and manner government is handling the affairs of the party and country, they won't tell you but that is the fact . Nana Akomeah CEO of inter city STC is reported to have said " The NPP is now not popular " . So why is that vibrant NPP Kufour handed over not popular now? The fact that Akuffo Addo led with 49% in the first round of the 2008 elections tells you the NPP was still the popular choice of Ghanaians after 8 years. So what has changed for Akomeah to now say the NPP is now not popular. Sad though but what can the ordinary NPP supporter do.
