Abdul Malik Kweku Baako, the Editor in Chief of the New Crusading Guide newspaper, has questioned former President John Mahama's intention to change the names of some public universities in the country.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate plans to revert to the old names of some public universities that were renamed by President Nana Akufo-Addo if he wins the election later this year.
During his address to party supporters, chiefs, and students in Zuarungu in the Upper East Region, the NDC flagbearer criticized the NPP government's decision to rename universities established by the NDC government after their own political figures.
Kweku Baako, in reaction, believes such a move will be detrimental to the former president.
"In fact, it might even be suicidal for the one advocating for it. Maybe there isn't quality advice going into some of these campaign promises. We might as well clap for those who are not giving quality advice because it can impact on election outcomes. This is not an issue you put on the front burner because it could easily backfire," he said on Peace FM's morning show 'Kokrokoo'

JM has no plans and policy for Ghana, he just wants to be in power because it is two terms for everyone.
kweku ganga baako, was it not suicidal for the less use nana addo to change names to NPP-UP people, when even JJ who use his gift money as seed money for UDS. what was the contribution of Dombo to UDS that make nana addo name it after him, wee man barko
MR KWEKU BARKU YOU ARE PART OF THE PROBLEMS OF THIS COUNTRY?WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?ARE YOU NOT ASHAMED OF YOURSELF?WE HAVE BETTER JOUNALIST IN THIS COUNTRY MORE THAN YOU ARE.IF U DONT HAVE ANYTHING BETTER TO SAY SHUT UP
Baako, absolute ***barred word***! Did Akuffo Addo receive any advice before changing the names of institutions that he didn’t build!. Your bias stance in our political discourse is epic!
Kwaku Baako, you see how irrelevant you are slowly becoming in the Ghanaian Socio-political discourse? Your head like a tadpole.
when Nana Addo changed the names of the universities his favored peoples names there was no suicidal but if Mahama changed it will be suicidal , was let see that suicidal pls . as for the changed it will come 2025. maybe it's your suicidal that will come afterward. see who is talking ?
You see the infants we have been complaining about? @KB, how does your argument make sense? How do the two compare? Does a street somewhere within Accra need to be publicised world wide? Does anyone need to remember the name of that street? Political pets
Mr Suicidal, those days when such elementary panel discussion had effect on a section of the electorate are no more, there's no relevance. Kenkeni has made a good observation about those autonomous universities, if they have to stay autonomous, then their original name will be the current ones. However, what was even the motivation for their autonomy? I won't be surprised that it was made so just so that Akufo Addo can name them. But what I heard Mahama said was that universities all over the world are not typically named after people but after the cities or what the university is known or created for which is true. So facilities within the universities are often named after heroes. Here in Ghana, politicians just do anything anyhow, they won't fund universities appropriately to make them competitive, they don't even know the importance of it, yet they will give them unnecessary complex long names which are non beneficial and can only have negative effects on the universities, that must stop! It's advantageous and more sustainable for universities to bear simple names that can easily be pronounced by majority of people. Politicians should learn how to fund universities rather than naming them after their party patriachs
By Mahama's logic, then Atta Mills High Street should revert back to Accra High Street. Stop this politics of pull him down.
At times one is tempted to believe that John Mahama is either ill adviced or he speaks based on information made available to him by party boys. We used to have a University in the north of Ghana called UNIVERSITY FOR DEVELOPMENT STUDIES (UDS) with campuses in Tamale, Nyankpala, (N/R), Navrongo (UE/R and WA, (UW/R) Government decided that the Navrongo and Wa campuses of the UDS be made autonomous Universities resulting in a change of names for the Navrongo and Wa campuses of the UDS. Navrongo now C.K. Tedam University of Technology and Applied Sciences (CKT-UTAS) Wa now S. D. Dombo University of Business and Integrated Development Studies (SDD-UBIDS). So which old name is Mahama going to revert to, UDS? Which means CKT-UTAS and SDD-UBIDS will cease to be autonomous and brought back to be part of the old UDS, is what he"s saying?
