... Over TV License Fees
Popular Ghanaian music artiste, Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A Plus, has vowed to never pay television license fees.
According to him, he may be the first to be jailed with respect to the fees. Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) recently secured permission from the Chief Justice, Sophia Akuffo, to take the fees from owners of television sets.
Failure to honour one’s obligations, according to the new directive, could result in incarceration. A Plus has however declared that he would never pay the fees and in that regard, he may be the first to be jailed.
He added that the law is bogus, and if care isn’t taken, the Akufo-Addo-led government would pay the price during the 2020 elections.
“What is on GTV that anyone must go to jail for not paying to watch! First it was tow levy. Now it’s this nonsense. I will never pay!!! 2018 I will organize a demonstration against TV license.
I want to be the first to go to jail for not paying TV license. Ghanaians are under pressure already. Bring this nonsense and jail them and see what will happen in 2020. Abi you remember the motor court? …” he was quoted as saying.
The musician noted that Ghanaians are already under economic pressure, and a such the implementation of the law on television license would further compound the burden.
The end result, he noted, would be a demonstration organized by Ghanaians to protest against the new law.
“Any government which charge it’s poor people import duty for TV sets and charge them annually for owning it is very wicked and clueless!!! Give me liberty or give me death”, he concluded.

Stop your NOISE!
I cant even get the transmission over here in Takoradi. Those of you comparing Ghana to other western countries should stop that and face the real fact. U can make comparison when u are on the same scale with those western world. But for now the gap is huge. Even if the western world exploits such levies they will give you a value of your money. Even before you can even tune on GTV u have to make sure u have to buy someway expensive Antenna but even TV3 which is privately owned you can even tuned on without Antenna and they even provide you with all the good services you need. Do u think if GTV provides better services to the public will anyone complain if they decide to pass such levies? I tell u about 90% of Ghanaian s dont have GTV on their TV sets. Me for instance if this GBC officers come to my house for the levy i will just tell them to come and tune GTV on my set for me. If they are able to do that I will even give them extra pay. So those of you over there in the western world should stop comparing Ghana to the western world should stop because you get what you pay for and here am not getting what I pay for and u expect me to keep quiet.
Me, mention one nation in the civilized world that tv licence is free? Don't mention the u.s.a because I live here and pay to cable vision-Optimum and we pay with a package and pay more for prefered channels and I pay more than $100.00 a month excluding my electricity and gas and imagine if I don't work hard, how would I be able to pay my rent and all these bills? Imagine I put my hope in politicians here which is even impossible, and not taking advantage of their policies how would i be able to live here? I have insurance that take care of me to my doctors appointments and pharmacy and if I'm idle like the ndc who want the government and their politicians to do everything for them while roaming about playing the fo*l around how would I be able to survive? If you working you have no time and cause to complain because paying Will serve you a good cause. Ndc find jobs to do and stop complaining and press conferences and asking for unnecessary demonstrations. Ghana is on cause and we hoping for the best for our country. Ndc is not good for Ghana.
Where does those private TV stations get their transmission from? Who are the sole suppliers of the transmission? These are questions Ghanaians should be asking not ndc now going to join A plus for demonstration, in fact redundancy is a disease, ndc find jobs to do, give your hands wo*k to do so as to earn something, these won't help you. H*te, env*ness, jealousy and press conferences. In every civilized world there is nothing like free tv, there are so many companies that supply cables for tv and you pay every month for their services that's why I asked those questions. If GTV are supplying services to you then you've got to pay and ask for good service, they might be cash strapped and need money to serve you better so why not? If citizens don't help to build a nation how do you expect the nation to be built with this attitude of I won't pay this and I won't pay that. Government business is to roll down good policies for the people to take advantage to move on with your lives and you don't expect everything to be done in a year since Rome wasn't built in a year. It took Osagyefo from 1958 -1966 to build Ghana those over 300 factories weren't built in a year and even Osagyefo who was left with lots of money took time to build the nation his way, how much more a government who met nothing except empty coffers and debts. The interesting part is, those who l00ted this country are asking for jobs and are the very people asking more than even those who were promised. Somebody tell ndc their confusion wouldn't confuse anyone, if they had taking Ghana to a height we would be moving higher by now, tell them politics is not meant for economic association but meant to serve the people with the people's resources, if you want to be rich go to the private sector and let those self made already take in charge to drive the nation to her destination, politics is not for the poor person to come and find wealth like the ndc do, but politics is for the vision, successful people with clue to solve challenges not Nam daadzie people like some ndc deputy ministers and appointees who had no clothing to wear how much more a car but dressing in style and riding expensive cars now, and that's what ndc call we care for the poor and socialism .
@ Ahenkan.... this is our problem too, in the west so what. is everything in the west good? who told you all countries in the west pay for TV license? its a shame and you must desist from this mental slavery by the west... on this de333333 A-Plus has my backing.... how would you charge imports on tv and again tax citizens for watching TV. what at all is governace?... it is to librate and free your own people to a good life. period
