Sammy Kuffuor has risked angering Ghana legend Abedi Pele by stating that the three-time African Player of Year is not among the best two African players ever.
The two have not been on good terms since the 2002 Africa Cup of Nations when the ex-Bayern Munich player was booted out of the Black Stars camp.
Kuffuor was sacked from the Ghana team during the tournament in Mali for breaking camping rules. But the ex-defender pointed accusing fingers at Abedi, who was then the deputy Ghana FA boss, which sparked the uneasy relationship between the two.
Many in Ghana and indeed across the continent believe that Abedi Pele should be the second best if not the best player from Africa.

But Kuffuor, who is one of Africa’s most decorated players insists Cameroonian Samuel Eto’o, the four-time African Player of the Year ranks second after the George Weah.“Eto’o is too quick, highly intelligent and he is amazing in the 18-yard, good technique and playing alongside the likes of Messi and Ronaldinho,” the former Bayern Munich defender said.
“I don’t even know how to describe him, after George Weah for me he is the best player on the continent.” Weah is the only African player to have won the World Player of Year award but he only the Africa gong just twice.
Abedi is unlikely comment on Kuffuor’s declaration but his avowed supporters are likely to spark a debate about who is Africa’s best ever player.
