The Ghana Football Association (GFA) will soon confer honours on members of the 1991 National Under-17 team that won the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) Soccer Tournament in Italy.
This is to commemorate the 20 years anniversary of the success
that saw a massive change in the direction of football in Ghana.
Mr Kwesi Nyantakyi, President of GFA disclosed this at the launch
of a Airtel Rising Stars Juvenile Football Project in Accra.
He said the decision to honour the players is to show
appreciation to the achievements of the twinkle-twinkle little stars
who made Ghana proud at the World Cup but have not had their full
recognition.
According to Mr Nyantakyi, the best player for each position at
the end of the project will have his or her name accorded to a member
of the victorious 1991 squad. This, he said, is to motivate the younger generation to take the footsteps of the victorious and great players who made the nation proud and has been a success story for the countrys progress in football.
Mr Nyantakyi said the GFA is bent on promoting juvenile football
as part of its efforts to create a formidable foundation for the
future.
