Ace sports journalist and former coach of Sekondi Eleven Wise Nana Agyemang has refuted claims that he blamed an unsuccessful operation at the Okomfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi for Christopher Opoku’s death.
Reports in the media had claimed that he outspoken journalist who was a close friend of the late Christopher Opoku had, in an interview with Ahotor FM, claimed his friend died because of a botched operation at one of Ghana’s top hospitals.
Speaking to ghanasoccernet.com, Nana Agyemang insists he only said "Miscalculations in the operations plunged his life (Opoku's) life into jeopardy.”
The former Eleven Wise and Okwawu United manager added that his comments have been twisted, insisting he never said the hospital is responsible for Opoku's death in the audio with Ahotor FM.
Explaining further, he noted that there wouldn’t have been the need for his friend to have been sent to the UK for further medical attention if the one carried in Ghana had been successful.
Opoku died suddenly in London last week after battling cancer for several years.
Nana Agyemang added further that by the time Opoku got to London, he had become so weak that he collapsed and went into coma at the airport and had to be rushed to the hospital.
The sports journalist said that Opoku suffered in the last 10 days of his life, undergoing four different operations to try and contain the complications from the botched KATH surgery, but he could not make it.
Agyemang stressed that Opoku's would have been saved if he had arrived in London earlier.
The late journalist is survived by a wife and three children.

people should be careful with their comments on radio or tv discussions. Chris had his surgery in 2012 and died in 2017. if his death is as a result of complications from the surgery, he wouldn't have survived within these years. God has plans for everyone and His time to recall us. May his soul rest in peace.
I agreed ,so the leaders and those who have money always travel to outside the country for the're treatment!!
I don't know why Nana Agyemang is apologizing. No need, the truth must be said, SOME Ghanaian doctors are jokers...
Most of these surgeons aren't so good like we are made to believe. From personal experiences mist Ghanaian doctors aren't up to scratch period.
But even if he said that he is not wrong . I lost a sister who was operated upon in Tema General hospital and apparently one of them punctured a sensitive part of my sister which had nothing to do with the part of the body which had to be operated upon. All they said was "stress something" ...you know them and their confusing lingo when they are confused themselves! By the time she was transferred to a different hospital it was too late and we lost her. Ghanaian doctors are killing patients needlessly and it is about time someone took them on.Why is it that if politicians have headache they fly outside for treatment? I considered taking the hospital on but i had no resources at that time . God will judge them. They think wearing that white cloak makes them demigods and their opinions and actions cannot be challenged!
