Executive Chairman of the Jospong Group of Companies, Joseph Siaw Agyepong, has dismissed suggestions that greed drives his business interests.
According to him, he is content with his current position in life and that he finds joy in seeing people work, thus his interest in building businesses.
Mr Agyepong has in the last few weeks been in the news over government’s contract with the Road Safety Management Limited (RSML) a subsidiary of the Jospong Group to impose a mandatory tow levy on vehicle owners.
Critics have described the move as a bad idea, with others suggesting that the policy was a recipe to “create, loot and share”.
But speaking on Accra-based Joy FM Tuesday morning, Mr Agyepong said the driving force behind his business interests is trying to find solutions to problems in society whilst creating employment for the teaming unemployed youth in the country.
He said his joy is "to see people working. I don’t say that I’m greedy. One company is enough to take care of me and my five children. When I create a business, it’s because of employment.”
He said he sees himself as “someone trying to create employment for people [and] to create an environment that will make people work,” stressing, “I consider myself as someone blessed and I have to share the blessing with society”.
He bemoaned the current Ghanaian “system” which he said, practically makes it impossible for young people to start up a business after college education.
The sad thing he noted, “is that you are doing business as a local businessman and at the same time you have foreigners competing with you for the same business.”
He fears that soon, “foreigners will cook and sell waakye,” a delicious meal made from boiled rice and beans enjoyed by Ghanaians, if a decision is not taken to boost local businesses.
Things will be better he said, only “if we can look at the system and see how best we can customize the system for Ghanaians.”
Mr. Siaw Agyepong, therefore, called for the urgent need to protect local businesses maintaining that,“If the demand is not there, there is nothing you can do.”

I'm ashamed of you being an elder of my beloved church. You are part of the people who give the church a bad name. You are so wicked that i can't even fathom how you sleep every night unless you've got no conscience.
You are greedy, selfish and a monicious man. Getting NDC to push true your agenda apuuu greedy man. we won't pay and if you try to collect judgement dept we will pray and hmmmm ......
oh so i post a comment about you elder Agyapong bribing the soldiers to steal gbetsile lands and it gets deleted somehow. As i posted earlier for renedering some of us still homeless we will continue to curse you until u release our lands for us. ask yourself who buys a stool land from an ordinary person apart from the chief. Because of corrupt government officials you always have your way. Not surprised you are a pentecost church elder. Elder who pays bribe for peoples houses indeed. Greedy and selfish man.
Great idea, indeed many are employed because of your ingenuity but is it true that with zoomlion goverment pays 4500ghc per month and you retain 350ghc and pay them 100ghc? I was highly disturbed to hear that.
MASSA YOU ARE TOO GREEDY..FULLISSH MAN.WE WON'T PAY ANY LEVY.YOU CAN BURN YOUR CARS.
This was the exact line Ibrahim Mahama took when his greediness was pointed out to him. It is only you who have Ghanaians at heart. When you hear of governments intentions then immediately you formed a company and start giving bribes so that the contract may be awarded to you. a Christian, king of bribery. God will surely curse you and your ilk. DJULOR, PENTECOST DJULOR.
It seems controversy surrounds most of your business concerns, zoomlion, subah, gyeeda, road toll levy, etc. How do you explain that? Could you be kind enough to tell us the number of your employers you have mentored for them to open their own businesses, since you are so much interested in work for people?
listening to this man, i was ashamed! He is very very greedy and USED his political connections to drive his workers to virtual SLAVE labor conditions. Each month, he charged ghc500 to the govt PER zoomlion WORKER and retained ghc400 as management fee per PERSON!!! Even that, he said he was MAKING A LOSS!!!! What is the poor worker to do with GHC100? This business was based on a CONTRACT with GHANA GOVT. For this to happen, he definitely relied on political contacts. There were no bids. There was no competitive bidding by others for the best price. THe report on investigations claimed that Ghana Govt was NOT GETTING VALUE FOR MONEY. This man is not an entrepreneur. He is a SLAVE DRIVER. He must be made to PAY For his sins here on earth. And after he goes to HELL. The DEVIL must deal with him in the hottest part of hell.
My worries! Buy workers protective gears. Help save LIVES. If workers are seen @ East Legon mansions with no protective gears on & are siphoning toilet from septic tanks into their huge trucks with no PROTECTIVE gears on that should send the SIGNAL to the top managements that they don't VALUE lives but put a value on PROFITS.
