Minister of Education, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh has warned school authorities collecting unapproved fees from parents to desist from it.
“One challenge is school authorities flouting our orders. We have given out the implementation guidelines and so school authorities who will flout it; collecting money here and there will be dealt with drastically...” he told Kwami Sefa Kayi in an interview on Peace FM's morning show ‘Kokrokoo’.
Reports went viral of some school authorities allegedly charging unapproved fees.
This follows the commencement of the flagship programme of the ruling government; free Senior High School (SHS) policy.
The much touted policy commenced on Monday, September 11, 2017.
In addition to tuition which is already free, fees for boarding, admission, library, examination, computer lab, science centre, feeding, utilities, text books and meals for day students have been taken up by the government.

Where is National Commission of Civic Education? The should be educating parents not to pay unapproved fees and report those Headmasters. NCCE get up and do your job
Government has been humble to fend for your ward, a citizen. Rich parents must be humble enough to get people from the streets. An era to get together and grow private businesses for employment and overall growth of AMA Ghana.
Dont dare that minister. I follow him and knows he is a man of his sword. It wasnt wrong putting him to charge. Napo, Dr Opoku can handle it. At least it got started and challenges would be managed. FREE is Feasible
Seriously some people can afford to pay for their children's education. Those people should be allowed to pay so that the state can have adequate money to pay for the genuinely needy students. What is the justification, when someone pay dollars for their elementary education for them to come compete for the same resources available to the truck pusher. The politics of this whole free SHS will come back to bite the program.
You took the nod to attack joey yet your comment baffles me. Doesnt the rich man also go to the hospital, or cant he buy and use hygienic water? The free SHS wasn't brought for either poor or rich else it'll be discriminatory. I'm shocked you gave an infantile comment.
IT IS A MARK OF INEFFICIENCY TO WARN AGAINST WILLFUL CRIMINALS.LET THE CORRECTIVE MEASURE THIS INSTANT PERFORM WITH SWIFT STERN EFFICIENCY. RELIEVE EVERYONE OF THE SHS ADMINISTRATORS THAT HAS HAS TAKEN A COLA(BRIBE MONEY) FROM ANY WARD OR PARENT. DON'T EVER SPARE AN EDUCATOR THAT CORRUPTS THE PURPOSE OF HEALTHY LEARNING. THIS IS GREGORY OFEI OBUOBI RESPONDING. ACT NOW WITH PROMPT EFFICIENCY.
Promise made, promise well kept. Thank God for the leadership and vision of the NPP government led by Prez NADAA and AlhajiDr. MB
@Joey, you are rather the difficult person, common sense should tell you that a minister who receives thousands of cedis and free housing e.t.c doesn't need free SHS for his child but now he is forced to take it free, there are many rich people who can afford to pay for their kids but now must have have it for free. Ghana needs more than just free SHS, the NHIS doesn't function well, so much financial problems with it where people cue in long lines for treatment and some times turned away by doctors. We are struggling to set up proper medical care, roads, water and clean environment yet we all of a sudden thinks offering free SHS to all children including rich people children is the only solution to Ghana woes? sad
Will government absorb the bribe payment we make to officials before our children are admitted?
The minister who resigned for saying Northerners are difficult to deal with got it wrong .What he ought to have said is that Ghanaians are one hell of a difficult group to deal with.To the f001s saying that bankers and business people ie rich people can pay for their wards and do not need free SHS words cannot describe the level of their stu-pi-di-ty.If any Ghanaian feels he is rich he is at liberty to send his ward to Ghana International School, Morning Star SHS etc where he would pay through the nose for his child's education. The policy is simple. f you are a Ghanaian and your ward qualifies for Shs government will bear the cost. What else should we use the country's resources for? Distributing it amongst worthless individuals who have never done a day's honest work in their entire lives? The NDc projected that Nana Addo will not live beyond June 2016 and hired an international magazine to publish false medical reports about the man tagging him with 3 major life threatening ailments, yet the man is alive and doing his job.God will continue to bless the man and all those who willed his death will bow their heads in shame .As for those school heads charging unapproved fees simply fire their ***barred word***.That's the only language Ghanaians understand.
