Family of the late Captain Maxwell Adam Mahama has appealed to the state to erect a monument in any part of the country to serve as a reminder to the country of the death of its son. The family wants the monument to be a forestallment of lynching as a means of exacting justice.
The family made this demand on Friday, June 2, when Speaker of Parliament Professor MikeAaron Oquaye and leadership of the House paid relatives of the fallen soldier a visit to commiserate with them. The Speaker assured the family that Parliament will support the erection of a monument in honour of the late army captain.
Captain Mahama was gruesomely murdered by a mob at Denkyira-Obuasi on Monday, May 29 after he was mistaken for an armed robber, as suggested by initial reports. His lifeless body was slightly set ablaze by residents much to the chagrin of the entire Ghanaian populace.
There have been calls for government to crash the growing lawlessness in the country with some laying the blame at the doorstep of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. But the family will have none of politics with the issue. The family has consequently advised all to desist from politicizing the death of their late son, who was commander of a military detachment to Denkyira-Obuasi.

BOSS I DISAGREE WITH YOU SO THAT THIS ***barred word*** TOWN FOLKS WILL USE HIM TO GAIN TOURIST ATTRACTION
Our Dear President. I want to use this forum to make a plea.... if the family of Captain Mahama will allow, I suggest he is buried at the venue where he was murdered and a tomb made on his grave so that every morning when town folks wake up, it is the tomb that will salute them and remind them of their cruelty to mankind. This will instill some discipline in them for the rest of their lives. I would also suggest that once the tomb and monument is built there, a military base for Central Region should be built in the town to keep reminding them that their wicked behavior brought that edifice to the town so that the fear of the Army will be instilled in them. Again, a museum to honour Capt Mahama at the venue which will bring people from around the world should be built there. His statue, some of his military dresses, the gun he used that day and may be the dress he wore before being lynched should all be displayed there for the world to know how those people are. However, if proceeds are made from the Museum, the funds should go to the wife and children till they all die from this world and nothing, I mean nothing should be given as royalties to the town folks. Again, they should be made to protect whatever is brought there,Anything from the museum that goes bad or waste should be blamed on the town folks. That should be enough punishment for their atrocious life.
OVER THE PAST DECADES, THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF INNOCENT, POOR AND DOWNTRODDEN GHANAIANS BOTH MEN AND WOMEN WHO HAD BEEN LYNCHED THROUGH "INSTANT JUSTICE". YET, THESE INCIDENCES WERE NOT REPORTED IN THE MEDIA OR TREATED AS HIGH PROFILE CASE. WHY? ARE THEY NOT HUMAN BEINGS OR GHANAIANS? IS IT BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT A MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT, LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS, PARTY EXECUTIVES ETC.? IS GHANA JUSTICE SYSTEM WORKING? DO WE HAVE SELECTIVE LAWS FOR THE POOR AND AFFLUENT IN OUR SOCIETY? DON'T WE THINK THESE DOWNTRODDEN GHANAIANS ALSO DESERVE TO BE TREATED EQUALLY, AND EVEN NAME KUMASI CITY AIRPORT AFTER A WOMAN WHO WAS GHASTLY LYNCHED AND MURDERED THROUGH "INSTANT JUSTICE FEW YEARS AGO?
I think an even better way to honour the fallen soldier is for nation to institute an anti mob justice law that specifies deterrent sanctions for people who participate in such act.
