The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Administration after failing to honor its promise of instituting an insurance package for fishermen in the country has once again promised to give scholarship to about one million children of fishermen in the country soon.
The Minister of Fisheries, Madam Sherry Ayittey made the promise when she presented about 700 pans, nets and other fishing items to fishermen and fishmongers at a separate ceremony at Ankaful, Saltpond and Biriwa in the Central Region on Tuesday. About 250 fishmongers benefited from the package.
According to the minister, the policy which is receiving expert advice would also provide free school uniforms to all basic school wards of fisher folks as well as monthly allowances to support such students and their parents.
Madam Ayittey stated that the scholarship package would be similar to that of the Cocoa Board Scholarship Scheme which is helping the wards of cocoa farmers in the country.
She hinted that the distribution of pans and other fishing items forms part of the government’s social responsibility towards fishermen and fishmongers in the country, adding they have contributed immensely towards the development of the country.
The Minister of Gender and Social Protection, Nana Oye Lithur called on the fisher folks to vote for President John Dramani Mahama in the upcoming election since he has done a lot for the people in the region.
She urged them to embark on door to door campaign in order to retain President Mahama in power to enable him continue his good works for the people of Ghana.

Eiiiiiiiiiii, may God saves us from this heartless NDC administration. I think any fisher folks that vote for NDC again based on these promises may be committing a sin. It is a mark of desperation for the two ministers to plan to just throw lies at the very down trodden fisher folks they have heartlessly molested for eight good years. May God forgive them before it is too late.
I thought they said they are progressively implementing the free education policy so what is the essence of this scholarship. After all is it in their manifesto or just a promise.
So after Good 8 years of Hardship living by your policies, you only give us Pan. Pan for WHAT. Because of your bad policies, and that we were not able to buy Pan. My fellow FANTES thank you for the Pans being distributed, but we will VOTE against you. Pans came TOOOOO LATE. We have decided where our Thumps will print already. Every 4 years you come and DECEIVE us with Pans, Matches, Machetes, Kako etc. We are WILD awake this 2016 Election. CHANGE IS COMING.
