The Director, Faculty of Academic Affairs & Research, at the Kofi Annan International Peace-Keeping Centre (KAIPC) Dr Kwesi Aning has advised President Akufo Addo not to take up the fight against corruption now.
According to the Security Expert, it will be wrong for the President to combine the fight against corruption with that of the ongoing fight against illegal mining popularly known as galamsey.
President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has it will be suicidal on his part to abandon the stance his government has taken against the menace of illegal mining, in their quest to protecting the environment for the survival of present and future generations.
According to him, the oath he took during his swearing in as President of the land enjoins him to uphold the constitution and protect the integrity and sovereignty of Ghana which entails protecting the nation and its people as well as its natural resources. Currently a 400 joint military/police anti-galamsey taskforce has been deployed to fight the menace.
President Akufo Addo has also made his intentions clear on fighting corruption and has initiated steps to setting up the office of Special Prosecutor, the Bill to that effect is currently before Parliament.
Speaking to Bola Ray on Starr FM, Dr Aning who said no government in Ghana can fight corruption well, noted that adding the fight against corruption to the ongoing fight against galamsey will be just too much of a big bite for the President.
“No government in this country can fight corruption well. I’ve advised President Akufo Addo not to add the corruption fight right now to the galamsey fight. Because the people who are involved in galamsey are also involved in corruption and it will just be too much of a big bite for the President. So let’s fight the galamsey fight which is going fairly well [around 52%] and say how do we identify those who are behind the galamsey. Because the galamsey fight will expose some of the most corrupt people.
“In all the galamsey fight, no important Ghanaian has been arrested. But there are Ghanaians involved… important ones. How do you import equipment from China or Ukraine or Russia and you pass them through the ports if some important person is not part of it.? So there are a few important tough questions we need to ask which we’re not asking yet.
So the corruption fight is important but I think we shouldn’t combine it with galamsey fight.”

What exactly is this dude talking about? When should he start fighting corruption then? You have been able to establish that those involved in galamsay are also involved in corruption and yet you turn around and say he should not fight corruption. What kind of academic contradiction is this! As a matter of fact we are 60 years behind in the fight against corruption and it is naive on the part of any one to suggest that now is the wrong time to fight the canker! Dr Anning,God forbid but if you had cancer will you chose to undergo aggressive chemo or postpone it to a more convenient date? Well, corruption is worst than cancer if you care to know. This is because whilst cancer destroys individuals corruption destroys entire nations and the futures of generations yet unborn! Now do you see why we need to be aggressive in our fight against corruption? I hope the learned expert was drunk when he made that suggestion and has sobered up to reality by now !
What a dumb advice from a doctorate degree Holder! Fighting corruption versus fighting galamsey which one is more important? In any case, Nana addo claimed he is competent, so why are you advising a competent president to hold on, as far as fighting corruption is concerned. Either he wants npp to go back into opposition or he is just trying to pull Nana addo's leg. I suspect he doesn't want Nana to succeed.
So called security expert's position in this matter makes no sense to me at all!! Does he have something to hide??
Intellect is one thing and intelligence is another thing.
Doc, your piece of advice may be rated a B, which is a pass all right, but if you are really aware of the danger corruption is posing to the African continent as a whole I doubt if you would like it to be treated as a secondary or tertiary issue. Ghana is blessed to have a president who is ready to sacrifice his political office for the nation. If Nana does not start his main promise to the masses which won him the presidency, that will not auger well for him. Moreover, those who have stolen million and billions of Ghana money must be held accountable and now is the time or never! I will strongly advise Nana to IGNORE your opinion and forge ahead and that, he will prevail.
Dr Anim pls come again
SOMETIMES PEOPLE BECOME SO ACADEMICALLY INCLINED AND AT THE LONG RUN LOOSE THEIR SENSE OF MAKING PROPER DECISION. THIS IS A COMPLETE ARCHAIC THOUGHTS.
Don't really get what this man is trying to arrive. Dr. Aning if we don't fight corruption today then WHENoR IT WILL AFFECT YOU BECAUSE you're part of the ***barred word*** brigade. Please we support what the prez. is doing.
