New Patriotic Party (NPP) Chairman for Weija-Gbawe Constituency in the Greater Accra Region, Mr. Ofori Ampomah, has urged President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to immediately sack the Energy Minister, Mr. Boakye Agyarko, if he [the President] has the workers of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) at heart.
According to Mr. Ampomah, who doubles as the Chairman for ECG Contractors Association, his call on the president to relieve the minister from his post has become necessary because “Mr. Agyarko’s continuous stay in office will affect the electoral fortunes of the NPP in 2020.”
In an exclusive interview with Today in Accra yesterday, Mr. Ampomah was unhappy about what he termed as the recent ‘abusive and divisive’ statements by Mr. Agyarko against the workers of ECG following their stance on the on-going concession of the ECG by government.
“Mr. President, my advice is that change the Energy Minister, Mr. Boakye Agyarko, immediately because he is not performing at all. The actions and inactions of the energy minister are killing and destroying the rapport the NPP government has had with the teeming workers of ECG and state energy agencies.
“…why should the minister verbally attack workers of the ECG by describing them as ‘incompetent workers who do not have expertise and skills to manage the ECG well? So the issue is either the president continues to allow the minister to hold his position or we lose the 2020 election to the opposition NDC.”
The NPP chairman felt saddened by his party’s failure to keep their promise on the sale of the ECG.
“Being the Chairman of ECG Contractors Association, I personally met all union members of ECG during the 2016 electioneering campaign and made lot allegations against the NDC government under President John Dramani Mahama with respect to the privatisation of the EGC. We promised the workers that we will not make the mistake with respect to privatisation of ECG should the workers vote massively for the NPP.
“…but it came to me as a surprise that the documentations with regard to the concession of the ECG were approved before we came to power. So we cannot do anything about it now. What we need to do now as a government is to appeal to the workers to have patience with us and not to use verbal attacks on them,” he advised.

Who is this man called Amponsah? If you have the POWER REMOVE Hon. Agyarko and you shall see what Ghanaians will do to you.
Mr Amposah, are you defending your sel-fish interest as a ECG contractor or someone who has the interest of the party at heart? Hippo-crate! If NPP loses who cares? Some of are not benefiting in any way but we still love follow where our heart is. Prez Kuffour said it is better to be a messenger in a party in government than to be a Gen. Sec. in a party in opposition. Wish the Party well if you claim to be a Chairman.
Look at another coward
Yes go ahead and let NPP loose the election. Qwasiakwa who are you to dictate to the President who he should sack. All you think about is wining elections, how about making this country work again. If you guys had managed the affairs well we wouldnt be in this situation. And that makes you incompetent. take it or leave it and I dare you to make NPP loose the 2020 election. Who cares.
It serves you right. After telling lies how the former administration is handling the issue, you are now crying. It's God which is punishing you. Tell Nana Addo to cancel the privitization of ECG ***barred word*** !!!
Where was such a m0ron picked from to become the chairman of the NPP? These are the kinds of people parading in political parties just for their pesonal gain. This 1diot is only thinking about winning the 2020 elections and not how the ECG will be positioned well to benefit all ghanaians. So irritating!
I have come to the conclusion that Ghana is one of these countries when someone is carrying out their duties diligently, speak the truth and prevent people from taking bribes then the nation wreckers cry foul and begin to demand that the good person must be sacked (similar thing happened to Martin Amidu). Most of the people at ECG are lazy, corrupt, inefficient and deserve to be sacked. As far as I am concerned the present minister of energy is even being too lenient with them. My comments are based on personal experience in my interactions in dealing with ordinary staff members to as high as the head of ECG. In my interactions with them I found only two employees who were reasonably sincere and willing to work the rest were people I will not even employ to look after my dogs. This man is asking for the removal of the minister because the channels for his corrupt practices have possibly been blocked.
Rubbish talk. Because his statement does not favour you, he must be sacked. If that was the process how many ministers would have kept their positions from independence till now. Go and find something useful to do and stop blowing hot air. This country is full of creeps of this sort. The government should be bold and not listen to such characters of no address
If he made such a statement then it is not fair. But must he be sacked because of that? Is he delivering in the provision of power to the rest of the people who do not belong to this group of people he has offended. At least there is some relief from dumsor. Please forgive him and let's look forward to better results.
