A document available to the media indicates that, the Government of Ghana has sent to Parliament for approval, a Memorandum of Understanding on defence cooperation between Ghana and the United States, that will give the Americans some space in the country to set up a camp for its military forces.
As part of the agreement, the US will among other things, be exempted from paying tax on equipment to be brought into Ghana and will also be given the opportunity to set up a telecommunication service on a radio spectrum given to them for free by the government.
Speaking to the issue on Happy FM, Deputy Information Minister, Ama Dokuaa Asiamah Agyei says Ghanaians must discuss the issue with their various Members of Parliament for better understanding.
“Go and discuss with your MP’s if you don’t understand”, she stated.
“This information was available to the Attorney General, we did not understand some of the proposals by the Americans, so the Attorney General refused some of the proposals they brought on the table”, she added.
She also debunked allegations that government took money for the negotiation - “If anyone has information that we have taken money from the Americans to make their proposal a reality, they should come out and protest.”
She added that, although the US government has brought a proposal which some Ghanaians don’t understand, parliament will decide on the issue.

This Americans will turn Ghana into a drug hub in west Africa and the whole of Africa. We have to refuse them
Which some Ghanaians don't understand, parliament will decide on the issue - very rude speech. Parliament is there to serve Ghanaians and the interest of Ghana, therefore if 'Ghanaians don't understand', why put it in front of parliament in the first place, a clear display of arrogance. The problem we have in Ghana politics is that, the people that we have voted to serve us are actually using us to serve them, it is the other way round, SAD! There is this high level of disrespect by politicians towards the citizens, it is unbelievable, and all this is down to corruption, corrupt MPs who have enriched themselves through so-called government contracts, which everyone knows. The government need to get this in his head that majority of Ghanaians do not want American base(s) in Ghana, it is the same American government who has locked over 7000 Ghanaians in various prisons in American and deporting them in droves - they do not recognise Ghana, neither do they respect Ghanaians, they are treating us like by-products. All this Ghana - American agreement is to protect American people and never Ghanaians, we are being used, period. When America started opening military bases in Germany, they had an open door immigration policy, whereby they took 1000s of German youths into American, trained them and brought them back to make their country rich, which is the Germany that we have today. When America wants to open military bases in Africa, they give them 20 million dollars, seize their land's worth over 200 million dollars and use it for life, and if the president complains, they will just get him in a meeting room and bully him into subjection, this is what will happen in the future.
