A former General Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) who also doubles as Chief Executive Officer of the Forestry Commission, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie is rooting for Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia to succeed President Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo after his term of office ends.
According to him the NPP as a Dankwah-Dombo-Busia tradition have had the Dankwa and Busia share of the cake, leaving Dombo as the next in line.
Speaking on Okay FM's 'Ade Akye Abia' programme, Sir John as he is affectionately called said such a move will help the NPP "erase" the perception as an Akan inclined party.
"After Akufo-Addo, Bawumia will be the next to succeed him," he said.
He therefore condemned the recent behavior put up by the Minority Members of Parliament (MP's) for describing the newly elected member of parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon as "bloody widow" saying it is 'shameful and unethical'.

The NPP will never choose a candidate outside its stronghold regions for the simple reason that since 1992, and after choosing so many Northern VPs that part of Ghana never rewards the NPP Also the Ashanti region is the power base of the NPP; John Boadu has said this and the party was made to feel this in 2008 when a low turnout there handed power to the NDC. Of Nana Addo's 5 million plus votes 1.6 million came from the Ashanti region. This is more than 20% of the NPP vote and together is more than the North and 2 upper regions gave the party in total In effect the 3 Northern regions can withdraw every single vote they gave NPP and yet on the back of Ashanti region votes, the party can still win an election with about 100,000 votes to spare Any attempt to foist Bawumia on us at the expense of Alan will be met with electoral resistance as Ashanti region voters will stay at home as they did in 2008 and NPP will go straight back to opposition in 2024. Alan has been told to wait his turn and his turn is 2024
they are starting it again. massa doing illegal things with regard to party rules and imposing candidates on the party cld work for you when u're in opposition. if you repeat same in govt, it will be a disaster. division in NDC caused mahama to lose even as far back as 2014. let the process work and work fairly. Sir, ur have enough on your table probably cos ur'e benefiting from Nana Addo-Bawumia govt and you definitely want continuity to enjoy more. what about those who are not captured?
Sir John pls don't start this political division in NPP. Allow veep to concentrate on his job.qhen you start this it will bring lots of tension in the party cos many equally qualified people in the party are eyeing the seat.
Nana addo mpo nyi na barwuliar. Even nana addo cannot find his feet, let alone barwumia.
Massa shift..they would all go through a process like the current Prez did so don't foist anybody on the party ..don't start talking about things that could have dire consequences on the party should your wish not materialize..ah opanin ad3n
