The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) seems to have courted controversy after responding to a comment made by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
The Otumfuo while speaking at a UN summit indicated that he persuaded former President John Mahama to concede defeat in the 2016 elections.
The NDC, however, disagreed because according to them Ex-President John Mahama accepted defeat on his own.
A statement signed by then Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah in the erstwhile Mahama administration said the former President conceded defeat even before the EC declared results. Click to read.
However, Kamal Deen feels the statement was not necessary and that "sometimes silence is golden".
"The statement from Julius Debrah was not important, when you do this and try to reduce the moral authority of our Chiefs, it is worrying because his statement refutes what Otumfuo said. Sometimes silence is golden . . . are you telling the whole world that they should disregard Asantehene’s statement? I think it is dangerous for us . . . this thing is in the past; 2016, we should move forward. What was the need for the press release? We should respect our chieftaincy institution; we shouldn’t draw them into our petty politicking," he urged while speaking on Peace FM's 'Kokrokoo' programme.

THE GREAT KING WADED INTO POLITICS SO POLITIC WILL RECEIVE HIM INTO POLITRICS. HE SHOULD HAD STAYED WITHIN HIS LINES AS A CHIEF, SO POLITICAL BIRDS WILL EAT HIM UP
Otumfuo is sending a word of caution to the NPP that if NANA ADDO loses 2020 election he will be persuaded to hand over by force.
He (Otumfuo) should have known better. he should have known that the NDC and Mahama in particular will not allow such statements to lie low or be swept under the carpet...
Ah so if Otumfuor has right to comment about someone can't the same person get the same for rebuttal. So Otumfuor has spoken about someone and no one should rebut. Then let us make the country a monarch from republic since Otumfuor is the omnipotent.
I don't think anyone dragged the chief into this. He placed himself there. Couldn't he had read through the speech before giving it at the UN. We forget to also look at things in the right frame. The Ex president had a highly revered reputation in international circles and to say that he didn't want to accept defeat until you stepped in dents the image of the ex president so please lets be objective here. The chief could have spoken on a number of issues and need not go towards that line moreover what was the chief's motive sighting that in his speech? God have mercy
