The Director General of the Ghana Maritime Authority, Kwame Owusu has confirmed media reports that his official residence has 11 air conditioners, after its renovation cost some GHc 1 million.
According to Mr Owusu, the number of air conditioners fixed in the renovated colonial style residence was reasonable because the number of rooms had increased.
“The places that I listed to you, for each one of them to have air conditioner will be 13, so the 11 is not even enough and by the way, we don’t put them on all together,” he said at a press conference he had recently with the media.
Following the renovation, the former wooden residence now has “four bedrooms on the main structure, a living room, a dining room, kitchen, a family room, a library and a basement. That is the main structure.”
“We also have a guest house which should befit a Director General, for that matter where you can have a guest of your counterpart where they can stay. That one is one bedroom, a dining room, living room and a porch that has also been erected,” he added.
Speaking on UTV’s ‘Adekye Nsroma’ newspaper discussion segment, Alhaji Halidu Haruna a Communication Team Member of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) frowned on comments made by the Maritime Authority Director General, indicating it was a waste of hard earned state resources.
He said, a lot of projects embarked on must be reassessed before started, since there are more pressing projects that need instance attention, yet we always concentrate on the less important projects due to someone’s comfort and interest.
“ . . Why should you even come out to justify your case in such words which will even make issues worse, when we need better explanations . . . 11 air conditions for four bedrooms, why are you going to run mortuary services in the building?” he angrily responded to comments made by the Maritime Director to buttress his point.

This reminds me of Sekyi hughes ***barred word*** of his official residence after leaving office. It is so typical of some of theses CEOs of state owned establishments to live this profligate lifestyle. He will claim he is used to this lifestyle because he had his own money before coming into office. My simple question is, does he have the same number of ACs in his own home?
NO one is defending his accusations. He says it's not true. If you know the truth, expose him and stop these childish lies. Lets get the facts right, before we start shouting ofthe roofs! hearsey is not fact, and neither are rumours.
Please what are theses room used for? 1 Living room 2 Family room 3 Guest room Eii Ghana
This man is a disgrace to Ghana.
This man had FOR SALE on three of his cars before elections but when NPP won, he tear rubber land cruiser, benz and Audi whithin three months.i have been trying to locate where he works ever since before this scandal showed me where he works.they forget they live in society and we see the effect corrupted monies have on them.
YOU DO NOT NEED AIR CONDITIONERS TO RUN A MORTUARY. IGNORANCE IS HAVING A TOLL ON US BECAUSE WE DO NOT KNOW AND WE PRETEND WE KNOW.
Please let us not down grade ourself. If you build a five(5)bedroom house with a Hall, a Dinning Hall,a study room and a Living area, you will need Nine(9)air conditions. Having eleven (11) airconditions in a thirteen room house should not be a topic for discussion. We have a lot of things to talk about not aircondition.Using aircondition is not a luxury, it is a necessity. We see ourselves so poor that we talk about anything including airconditions, jacuzzis,WCs that have been fixed in people's houses whiles the burning issues of the country are left behind. Our journalist should be up and doing by bring up important issues affecting the country for discussion rather than having all the time to go to somebody's house just to count the number of airconditions fixed in the house. God help us.
Kwame Owusu should be sacked without any delay. What a ***barred word*** to use 11 air-conditions in your house. I know that Akuffo Addo will leave him out of the hook.
i still can not believe if rational beings are defending this act. eiii
Is this story true true......
