Nigeria's business capital, Lagos, plans to ban motorbike and tricycle taxis - the city's most common forms of transport - from its major roads.
The Lagos state government said the ban was as a result of deaths and disorderliness caused by motorbike taxis, locally referred to as "okadas", and motorised tricycle taxis, known as "keke napeps".
It will take effect on 1 February and will be enforced on all major highways and bridges. It will be extended to other areas after an impact assessment is done.
City official Gbenga Omotoso is quoted by local media as saying these vehicles will not be allowed in these areas of the city: Ikeja, Lagos Mainland, Lagos Island, Apapa, Surulere and Eti Osa.
Nigerians online have protested about the ban, with some saying motorbike taxis help them beat the city's notorious traffic jams.

This Nigerian government is indeed bold and will take Nigeria far. As for our Ghanaian president, he appears to be the most disappointment we have ever had. As he continues with his fan far at the independence square today, An Okada knocked down a lady right under the traffic light at Ghana Standard Authority on the legon road and for more than 30 minutes , she laid on the dual carriage road motionless without help. If it had been a family member of any of the guys having that so called fan fare, am sure the program would have ended immediately. God is watching
